Not having a military means that Costa Ricans can benefit from a higher standard of living.  Incidentally, the government spends a large portion of tax revenue on education and health care. Costa Rica boasts one of the highest literacy rates in the world 96%.


Costa Rica is also known for its perfect climate, it has one of the best climates in the world. The sub-tropical climate has two distinct seasons: the rainy season and the dry season. Each season provides an abundance of sunshine to enjoy. The Central Valley offers warm days (75F- 80F; 24C- 27C) and cool nights (60F-65F; 16C- 18C).

 Heating or air conditioning is not required. Seventy percent of the country’s population resides in this area.

The government is committed to preserving 27% of Costa Rica’s natural area in order to insure that its wildlife, beauty, and value remain healthy. This makes Costa Rica the world’s leader in land conservation.

Costa Rica has been cited in various journals as Central America's great health success story. Its healthcare system is ranked higher than that of the United States, despite having a fraction of its GDP. 
Costa Rica is among the Latin America countries that have became popular destinations for medical tourism. In, Costa Rica received 150,000 foreigners that came for medical treatment. Costa Rica is particularly attractive to American tourists because of its proximity and short flight, the quality of medical services, and lower medical costs.

  The newest private hospital, CIMA, which is located in the popular suburb of San Jose, Escazu, is first rate and affiliated with Baylor University Medical Center. The Blue Cross Blueshiled Association is affiliated with another large private hospital in the San Jose area, Clinica Biblica. These affiliations ensure that a high standard of care is maintained. . Many of the doctors have trained in the United States, Canada or Europe, so they have learned English. 


Traditional financing is becoming more available in Costa Rica. However, the market is not as competitive or as abundant as it is in North America. American-style mortgages are now being offered by more local banks.

 Private mortgage lending is another option. Every day new leaders are expanding their products to Costa Rica; they obviously expect future growth in the real estate market. Interest rates are a bit higher, larger deposits are required, and you can expect to pay more up-front fees, but the mortgage market is becoming increasingly competitive. Insurance and taxes are much lower than in North America, which will more than offset the minor payment increase from interest rates.


Costa Rican law encourages foreign investment and ownership of real property. Costa Rica allows foreigners to own real estate or a business without obtaining residency. You can purchase real estate in your name or in the name of a corporation. Buying and selling property in corporate vehicles has many benefits, from liability protections to lower transfer fees, corporations can be a great tool.

Proximity to the USA: Access to Costa Rica has never been easier. There are two international airports: Juan Santamaria in San Jose, and Daniel Oduber in Liberia. Many cities like New York, Washington, Los Angeles, Pittsburgh, Houston, Atlanta, Miami, Phoenix, Charlotte, and Fort Lauderdale offer direct flights to Costa Rica. Additionally, many cities from around the world offer non-stop flights. Prices are reasonable, and travel times from the cities in the United States are relatively short.
